Stack Wedging
Your short game isn't just about touch. It is about knowing your carry distances, choosing the right shot and repeating it when the target changes. Stack Wedging turns those skills into a personalised, measured training programme.
What is Stack Wedging?
Stack Wedging is a training mode within TheStack App that takes the uncertainty out of distance-control practice. Instead of hitting a pile of range balls towards the same flag, the App chooses targets, receives shot data from Stack Radar and scores your performance. Practice can progress as the App learns about your present ability.
It's designed to help golfers build a more useful distance map across partial wedges and short approach shots. You learn what a particular swing produces, then you discover how repeatable that result is under changing demands.

Start with your Wedging baseline
Like the speed module, Stack Wedging begins by learning about your game. The initial session helps establish what you can already do at different target distances. Subsequent practice can then challenge your ability at an appropriate level instead of assuming every golfer should be working on identical targets.
Stack Radar is essential for the wedging mode because it supplies the shot-distance information needed for immediate feedback. Your existing launch monitor may be fine for Stack Speed yet still not qualify for Stack Wedging.
Premier Mode — let the App coach the session

Premier Mode is for the golfer who wants to turn up and be told what to work on. After your baseline, the App creates guided exercises suited to your skill. As you become more consistent, the challenge advances.
Progress through 100 levels
TheStack has designed a ladder of increasingly demanding wedge challenges. It gives practice a clear direction and offers a meaningful way to track progress.
Stack Points feedback
Instead of judging a shot merely good or bad, the mode uses a scoring method derived from strokes-gained expectations. This rewards the shots that finish closer to the intended target.
The scoring benchmark reflects performance expectations: according to the manufacturer, 200 Stack Points is the expected score for an average PGA Tour player at a target distance. That's useful context, not a realistic starting target for everyone.
Creative Mode — build your own challenges
If you have a favourite practice routine, Creative Mode lets you customise elements such as clubs, distances, targets and rounds. You might focus on a narrow yardage window, build a varied combine across the scoring clubs or create a competitive session with a friend.
A distance ladder
Practise changing carry distances rather than settling into one repetitive swing. For example, move through a progression of targets and track how accurately you adjust.
A match with a mate
Use the competitive challenge feature to make each practice ball count. Pressure and a clear target can make a session feel much closer to golf than a bucket of identical wedges.
Seasonal Circuit — compete beyond your own range
Seasonal Circuit adds an optional competitive layer, with manufacturer-organised seasons, weekly wedge combines and leaderboards. The exact seasons, eligibility and prize conditions change; check the current in-app details rather than assuming a competition is always running.

Why wedge distance control deserves its own plan
Golfers often spend their practice time chasing maximum driving distance or grooving a full iron swing. But the ability to control the carry of a 45-, 65- or 90-metre shot is incredibly valuable when you're trying to get the ball closer to the hole. The same loft can travel different distances depending on length of swing, speed and contact.
Stack Wedging asks you to respond to the shot the course gives you. That makes it a natural partner to Stack Stats, where you can find out whether your short approaches are actually costing strokes.
Which equipment and membership do I need?
Essential: Stack Radar
The integrated Stack Radar measures the carry data needed by the mode. It also works with compatible speed-training sessions and Practice Tracker.
App access: iOS
Stack Wedging is currently available on iOS, with Android and Web support planned. A supported app membership is also required. Check your current membership entitlements before starting.
Questions about Stack Wedging
Is the speed-training club used in Wedging?
No. Wedging is performed with your own golf wedges and Stack Radar. The adjustable Stack speed trainer is a separate tool.
Can I use any radar?
Not for this module. Stack Wedging needs Stack Radar integration for its built-in training experience.
Do I have to hit off grass?
You can practise in suitable environments where your device can measure your ball flight; follow the manufacturer's setup instructions for your space.
What about range balls?
TheStack advertises calibration and distance feedback designed to reduce practice-ball limitations, but consistent setup and sensible interpretation of measurements still matter.
Does it require an iPhone?
The mode currently requires a supported iOS device. Android and Web editions do not yet offer Wedging.
Next up: Stack Putting, Stack Stats and Practice Tracker, or all NZ Stack equipment.
